Maths

Across Years 7–9, the Mathematics program supports students to become confident, capable and independent mathematical thinkers. Aligned with the Victorian Curriculum Version 2.0, students progressively develop their knowledge and skills across Number, Algebra, Measurement, Space, Statistics and Probability.

Students build fluency in working with integers, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, rates, real numbers and scientific notation. Their algebraic understanding develops from recognising patterns and simplifying expressions to expanding and factorising algebraic expressions, solving linear and non-linear equations, and representing linear and quadratic relationships using equations, tables and graphs. Students apply these skills to practical contexts, including financial mathematics, profit and loss, scale, accuracy and measurement error.

In measurement and geometry, students investigate length, area, surface area, volume, circles, angles, quadrilaterals, congruence, similarity and coordinate geometry. As they progress through the year levels, they apply increasingly complex concepts, including Pythagoras’ theorem and trigonometry, to solve practical and real-world problems.

Students also develop their statistical and probabilistic reasoning by conducting investigations, analysing and comparing data sets, and selecting appropriate ways to represent and communicate findings. They explore samples and populations, distributions, symmetry and skew, and investigate chance through experiments and compound probability using representations such as tree diagrams, Venn diagrams and two-way tables.

Throughout Years 7–9, there is a strong emphasis on understanding, fluency, reasoning and problem-solving. Students are encouraged to explain their mathematical thinking, select effective strategies, use digital tools appropriately and evaluate whether their solutions are reasonable. This progressive approach develops the accuracy, persistence and confidence students need to apply mathematics in everyday life and prepare for senior secondary learning.

MEMORIES THAT WILL HAVE A
LASTING IMPACT

We nurture each and every student’s talents so they can ignite their passions and express their whole self.

We'd like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work, meet, educate and communicate. In particular, the Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation as the traditional custodians of the land, and pay our respect to their Elders past, present and emerging. We are truly grateful for this opportunity to share information with our community.
