Visual Communications

Across Years 7–9, Visual Communication Design supports students to progressively develop their skills in photography, cinematography, visual storytelling and digital media production. Students explore fundamental design principles, including the rule of thirds, symmetry, repetition and closure, and apply these concepts to create purposeful and visually engaging work.

Students begin by using mobile devices to capture and edit still images and video content. They learn how planning, composition, camera techniques and editing choices influence an audience, using programs such as Snapseed, CapCut and Keynote to refine and present their work. Students then progress to operating DSLR cameras, exploring semi-automated shooting modes and processing RAW image files to understand how post-production can enhance creative outcomes.

As their technical skills develop, students learn to use full manual camera controls to intentionally manipulate exposure and focus. They explore studio and location lighting techniques and participate in portfolio excursions to produce work aligned with industry expectations. Students also respond to an advertising brief, applying design principles and creative processes within an authentic professional context.

Throughout the program, students undertake visual research, seek and apply constructive feedback, and document the relationship between their planning and final outcomes. Their work is presented through digital portfolios that demonstrate their growing technical proficiency, creativity and ability to communicate ideas visually.

MEMORIES THAT WILL HAVE A
LASTING IMPACT

We nurture each and every student’s talents so they can ignite their passions and express their whole self.

We'd like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work, meet, educate and communicate. In particular, the Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation as the traditional custodians of the land, and pay our respect to their Elders past, present and emerging. We are truly grateful for this opportunity to share information with our community.
