Wood Tech

Wood Technology

Across Years 7–9, Wood Technology provides students with practical opportunities to develop their design, construction and problem-solving skills. Students learn to safely and confidently use hand tools, power tools and specialised machinery while applying accurate measuring, marking, cutting, assembly and finishing techniques.

Students begin by completing a traditional timber pencil case, using a single length of timber to develop foundational construction skills. They then progress to designing and constructing a practical carry caddy for storing and transporting chosen items. This more complex project introduces students to joinery techniques, collaborative construction and the use of demonstration models and guided instruction.

Throughout the program, safety, accuracy, craftsmanship and responsible workshop practices are strongly emphasised. Students document the development of their projects in digital portfolios using the IB MYP Design Cycle, demonstrating their ability to investigate, plan, create, evaluate and reflect on their work.

MEMORIES THAT WILL HAVE A
LASTING IMPACT

We nurture each and every student’s talents so they can ignite their passions and express their whole self.

We'd like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work, meet, educate and communicate. In particular, the Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation as the traditional custodians of the land, and pay our respect to their Elders past, present and emerging. We are truly grateful for this opportunity to share information with our community.
