Principal's Welcome

Dear Parents, Carers and Community,
It is my great privilege to welcome you to Saltwater P-9 College.
When we opened our doors in 2019, we began with a vision to create more than simply a new school. We wanted to build a community where every child was known, challenged and supported; where high expectations went hand in hand with care and belonging; and where students developed not only the knowledge to succeed, but the confidence, character and curiosity to make a difference.
Today, Saltwater is a thriving and diverse Prep to Year 9 College. While our school has grown significantly, the heart of our purpose remains clear:
Our vision is to educate students to thrive in an ever-changing world.
For us, thriving means more than academic success. It means equipping our students with the knowledge, skills, dispositions and confidence to navigate a world that will continue to change in ways we cannot always predict.
We believe every child can learn, grow and achieve.
Our responsibility as educators is to know our students deeply — to understand what they already know, what they are ready to learn next and what support or challenge they need to get there. We hold high expectations for every learner and use evidence, strong teaching practice and purposeful intervention and extension to ensure that every student continues to make progress.
Academic achievement matters to us, but education is about much more than results alone.
We want our students to become curious, critical, and creative thinkers who can solve problems, communicate confidently, collaborate with others and adapt when circumstances change. We want them to have the courage to take risks in their learning, learn from mistakes and understand that success does not always come from knowing the answer — sometimes it begins with asking the right question.
Our commitment to international mindedness continues to be an important part of who we are. Through the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme and the Victorian Curriculum, our students are encouraged to think beyond themselves, appreciate different perspectives and understand their capacity to contribute positively to their community and the wider world.
Just as we have high expectations for our students, we have high expectations for ourselves.
Great schools are built by great people. Knowledge and expertise matter, but so too does how we work with others. Leadership, at every level, requires the ability to listen, communicate, build trust, challenge thinking and bring people together around a shared purpose. We continue to develop a culture where our staff learn from one another, use evidence to improve their practice and remain focused on what makes the greatest difference for students.
Our families are an important part of that work. Strong partnerships between home and school are built through mutual respect, open communication and a shared belief in what young people can achieve. When we work together, we give our children the strongest foundation from which to learn and thrive.
Saltwater has changed enormously since 2019, and we will continue to evolve. Our community will grow, our facilities will grow and our approaches will continue to develop as we learn more about our students and what makes the greatest difference to their learning.
But some things will not change.
We will continue to know and care for our students. We will continue to hold high expectations for them. We will continue to challenge them to think deeply and independently. And we will continue to create opportunities for them to discover who they are, what they are capable of and how they can contribute to the world around them.
Our motto, “Wisdom Begins with Wonder,” has been with us from the beginning, and it continues to capture something fundamental about learning at Saltwater.
Wonder creates curiosity.
Curiosity drives learning.
Learning builds knowledge and capability.
And together, these prepare our young people to thrive in an ever-changing world.
I am incredibly proud of what our community has built since 2019 and excited about the next chapter of Saltwater P-9 College.
I look forward to welcoming you and your family to our school.

We'd like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work, meet, educate and communicate. In particular, the Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation as the traditional custodians of the land, and pay our respect to their Elders past, present and emerging. We are truly grateful for this opportunity to share information with our community.
